“Should Irish citizens resident outside the State have the right to vote in Presidential elections?”
This is the topic for the next plenary meeting in September of the Convention on the Constitution, a new venture in participative democracy in Ireland tasked with ensuring that the Constitution is fully equipped for the 21st Century and with recommending future amendments to be put to the people in referendums.
The Convention is keen to ensure as broad a participation in this debate as possible and so welcomes submissions on this topic via its website www.constitution.ie . Every submission received will be given consideration and made available to Convention members and the general public on the website. Submissions vary, with some being just a few lines entered into the ‘Comment’ box while others are more detailed with worked out arguments and proposals, often as attached documents. The Convention welcomes all views. Making a submission on the website is straight forward. Full details on how to make a submission and the deadlines for doing so are available on the website. Should anyone have a difficulty in doing this they can email the Convention Secretariat at submissions@constitution.ie.
